ADAMS COUNTY WISCONSIN PARKS
The hub of summer activity can be found at Castle Rock and Petenwell County Parks, located on the respective flowages of the Wisconsin River. Both offer camping complete with electrical and water hookups, showers, flush toilets, and dump station. Semi-primitive tent sites are also available.

The large, clean beaches, boat landings and visitor hospitality have people coming back year after year. Both Castle Rock and Petenwell Lake can accommodate all types of watercraft, while the river below Castle Rock Dam makes for a most enjoyable canoe trip. Boat and/or canoe rentals available near both parks.
ATV/UTV Trails: Adams County State funded ATV/UTV trails 5/18/16 UPDATE: THE OFF-ROAD AVT/UTV TRAIL IN THE MONROE PRAIRIE RECREATION AREA WILL BE CLOSED TILL FURTHER NOTICE DUE TO LOGGING IN THE AREA. IT IS HOPED TO BE OPEN FOR MEMORIAL WEEKEND BUT NOT GUARANTEED. INFORMATION WILL BE UPDATED AS AVAILABLE. Adams County is expanding it's trail system during 2016. Petenwell Park, on Wisconsin's 2nd largest inland body of water, will be constructing an ATV/UTV campground with access to Adams County's State funded trail system. Many ATV/UTV road routes consisting of sand, gravel, and/or pavement also exist in Adams County, and are open year round. Wintertime is snowmobiling season in Adams County with over 230 miles of state funded, well groomed trails that twist through forest and farmland. Afterward, look to Adams County businesses for cozy accommodations and dining to top off a perfect outing.

Castle Rock and Petenwell County Parks are undergoing new campsite design & restoration.
A day use fee is required at all Adams County parks and public accesses, unless you are a registered camper. Both parks offer daily, weekly, and monthly rates for camping and boat slips. Access to sanitary dump station for watercraft is also available. Campsites are on a first-come basis. Reservations are accepted for select sites at both parks with a minimum stay of 2 nights and a maximum stay of 14 nights on the reservable sites. Reservations require a non-refundable reservation fee. Please call the park directly for a camping reservation. Camping and seasonal boat slip reservation cancellations require a minimum 30 day notice to receive a refund. Shelter buildings are available at both parks for rental and include picnic tables, electrical outlets, and a refrigerator with grills, restrooms, and water nearby. For Shelter reservations please call the Parks Administrative Office at 608-339-4230. Shelter reservation cancellations require a 45 day cancellation notice to receive a refund.
Petenwell County Park is open year-round with heated shower/restroom facilities. Lake Petenwell is the 2nd largest body of water in Wisconsin. This 431 acre park is on a beautiful lake with a designated swimming area, boat launch/harbor of refuge, playground equipment and hiking trails, heated showers and restroom facilities. Park office includes a game room with concessions and firewood available.
Seasonal boat slip reservations will be accepted on a first come basis annually beginning January 1, by calling the Petenwell Park Office at 608-564-7513. Renting a seasonal slip one year does not automatically guarantee a slip for the following year. Monthly, weekly, and daily boat slip rentals will only be accepted at the park, at the time of use, reservations are not accepted for these slips.

Petenwell Park is located 17 miles northwest of Friendship. To get there, go nine miles north of Friendship on Highway 13, west 6.5 miles on County Trunk C, turn north on Country Trunk Z for 1/4 mile, and turn left and go 1/2 mile on Bighorn Drive. 2004 Bighorn Drive, Arkdale, WI 54613. Castle Rock County Park is open year-round. This 141 acre park is on the 4th largest body of water in Wisconsin. The park also includes a designated swimming area, boat launch, game room, playground equipment, heated showers and restroom facilities. Concessions and firewood available.

Castle Rock and Petenwell Parks are designated unload/load areas for snowmobiles with immediate trail access.
Adams County Outlying County Parks include: Lake Arrowhead County Park, Lake Sherwood County Park, Lake Camelot County Park, Lake Mason County Park, and Patrick Lake County Park. Shelter rentals available at Lake Arrowhead and Patrick Lake County Parks. These County Parks are open April 15 till November 1.
All other Public Water Accesses are open all year round!
